Pattrick Dunphy

I have been in the Hubbards community since 1983, first as a cottager, since ‘05, as a full time resident.

My experiences have been many over the years as far as safety on our roads is concerned. I watched with delight, the construction of a side walk along the stretch of the highway by the Market, only to see when finished, it was only to the Fox Point Road entrance.

How sad I felt, as I’d hoped this much needed sidewalk would possibly continue through at least to the school, alas, not the case. The shoulders here are very treacherous and totally unsafe for the children that must use them on a daily basis and discourage walking by our seniors and the general public. The speed limits do not seem to decrease speeders and there are no systems in place to encourage them to slow down.

Tourism should be a major contributing factor as a way to keep our young in the community by providing summer jobs, also to developing new and varied business. This can only be accomplished if all levels of government work together to provide the necessary infrastructure required. Hope this will happen sooner than later.

Cheers,
